About Nivelo
What I wished existed.
Hi, I'm Jorel — a lover of languages and an avid Spanish learner for the past 20 years. Like many, I discovered that the question "what level am I and how can I keep improving?" didn't have a good answer. The popular apps (Duolingo, Babbel, etc.) all solve just one piece of the language-learning puzzle and aren't aligned to the CEFR. Then there are the official exams (DELE, Cambridge), which cost €170 and run only a few times a year.
Nivelo is what I wish I'd had during those years: an honest, affordable, and accurate CEFR proficiency assessment — and a way to focus on my weak points to ACTUALLY improve my fluency.
Although I'm not affiliated with Cambridge English, Instituto Cervantes, or the Council of Europe, Nivelo uses the same CEFR descriptors they do and is designed to grade across all CEFR levels. The difference: I'm focused on prediction and preparation, not just certification.
Why Nivelo is different
- CEFR-aligned, not made up. Questions and grading are based on the official CEFR descriptors. We validate against real test-takers with officially confirmed levels.
- Improved fluency is the goal. A system that identifies your weak points and gives you the plan and tools to reach your goal.
- Bilingual from the ground up. English and Spanish as first-class. Most apps treat one as an afterthought. Not here.
- No tricks. No daily streaks, no gamification coercion. Built for serious adult learners who value their time.
About the name
Nivelo comes from Spanish: "nivelar" means to level — to set the level. That's what the app does: places you exactly where you are, no guesswork.
